| The voice of God via a fortune cookie?
I don't know about that. But I do know that upon opening up my fortune cookie last Saturday night, the message inside said to me:
"Stop waiting! Buy that ticket, and take a trip today!"
No joke. I still have it. So my response? Okay. I will. |

| My friend, Betty Byrd, sent me this little excerpt from an article she had read today. At work this afternoon, I told Betty I was somewhat concerned about my adictive nature, seeing as I had had nine cups of coffee during the course of the day. Now, people in the office always seem to give me a hard time about my coffee consumption, and Betty, in her most loving way expressed concern (although, I will admit, somewhat tongue in cheek).
However, upon returning home in the evening after a party and an additional three cups of coffee, I was pleased to see an e-mail from Betty in my inbox. The e-mail said this:
Dayne, When I got home today, I found an article in a magazine that should make you feel better about your coffee habit. The article is entitled, of all things, "Drink More Coffee" ! (The exclamation point is mine). Here's what it says:
"The steaming cup that wakes you up can also keep you healthy. Research shows that coffee protects against a variety of ailments -- from cavities to colon cancer. And some studies suggest that the more you drink, the better. The beverage lowers your risk of type 2 diabetes and can protect your liver, too. Caffeine gets the credit for some of coffee's magic powers. including protection against Parkinson's disease and gallstones. But coffee's main benefits comes from its wealth of antioxidants. In fact, the coffee bean, which is technically a berry, has one of the highest antioxidant contents of all berries, says Tomas de Paulis, Ph.D., formerly of the Vanderbilt University Institute of Coffee Studies. That's why, drop for drop, coffee has more of these nutrients than even red wine. If you have osteoporosis, be sure to follow your doctor's advice for calcium supplementation, because in some studies, coffee drinking has raised the risk of bone fractures."
Hope this makes you feel better about drinking nine or more cups of coffee per day.
Concerned for your health, Betty
Thank you, Betty for your care and love. But especially, thank you for more ammo against all those who might look poorly at my coffee drinking expertise. |
